Would it be safe use amoxicillin to treat an infected hole in a tooth that I've had for a few years, and has gradually got worse to the point of no sleep!

No, you should not take amoxicillin if you are allergic to penicillin. Amoxicillin belongs to the Penicillin class of antibiotics and must be avoided.

You need to see your dentist and/or doctor with an infected tooth.
