"I have been on this medication for about 3 months. I was initially warned about sun exposure, but being from the midwest and winter was upon us, I was not worried. As the medication was working, I did not want to stop it and my cruise out of Miami was fast approaching. This is where the side effects of doxycycline kick in and well, let's just say 30SPF and 50SPF sunscreen weren't enough. We purchased 100 SPF and thank god we did! The tops of my feet got the worst of it. I actually could not sleep one night due to the pain. Imagine someone rubbing hot sauce all over your body and the burn not subsiding. It was intense! We purchased aloe and I took ibuprofen every six hours or so. I did what I could as it was a tropical get-away only for 5 days. I didn't want to miss anything! It has now been 3 days since my skin has seen the sun and my feet are still burning a bit. It's getting better though. I highly recommend this medication but I also highly recommend 100SPF sunscreen if you are going into the sun."

"Have been taking for 3 days and was fine until late on the 3rd day second dose. Extreme abdominal pain and burning then woke at 4 am with non stop vomiting, chills, diarrhea. Within 2 hours I had full blown flu symptoms and a mild fever. I can't stand up for more than a few seconds without feeling I'll faint and I've felt incredibly weak. I'm a stay at home mother of 2 children and never had to tell my husband to stay home before to help with kids. I feel worse than I ever have in my life. I'd rather go through labor again then take these horrific pills. The scariest part about this is my symptoms started during a serious flu outbreak, but after reading side effects from others similar to mine I was more at ease."

"Started taking this drug for a sinus infection yesterday because I am allergic to a lot of antibiotics. I feel like the sinus infection is better but woke up last night with my whole neck hurting. Felt like it was swollen/ having bad acid reflux. I don’t know how to describe it. Thought I would push on through but I have taken my third dose and I have felt really anxious the whole day and tight chest and lump in my throat. Don’t like it."

"I have chronic sinus infections- can’t take penicillin due to building up a tolerance to it & I can’t take amoxicillin due to it making me have seizures (thanks epilepsy). I was given doxycycline and it’s day five and I’m in so much pain. Yes, it did clear up my sinus infection super quickly but the nausea and stomach cramps and no appetite is so hard. Honestly, I don’t know if I’m going to make it the six days I have left to finish it."

"This drug is horrible. Took one and only one pill. Couple hours after got a high feeling (not in a good way). Then I got muscle soreness, and sore throat. Went to sleep and had vivid nightmares. Woke up with chills. Now I've got a white bump on the back of my throat. Praying that this is it. Can't say I would even recommend this to an enemy."

"I was absolutely TERRIFIED to take this after reading all the negative reviews and really scary possible side effects. But I had to for a ureaplasma bacteria infection in my bladder that no other antibiotic can treat. I was experiencing extremely uncomfortable bladder symptoms and after hesitating for a week, I finally took the first dose. Doxycycline is really hard on the stomach and I learned really quick to always eat something at least 15 min before take a dose (even just a piece of toast) unless I wanted horrible stomach cramps and vomiting. Otherwise, I had barely any side effects. Just a small headache and dizziness the first couple days. I felt really encouraged by the positive reviews on here and wanted to add one to hopefully ease some minds! Side effects are rare but can happen and every person's body reacts differently so if this one you absolutely have to take, stay calm, take deep breaths, listen to your body and take a probiotic!"

"Started taking Doxycycline for Rosacea. It seems to be clearing up my face but about 45 minutes later it gives me a terrible gut ache for about an hour. I have to take it for another week but I hope I don't ever have to take it again because it's been miserable!"

"27 July 2018 Began Thursday evening. This is Friday evening and I've had dose 3. So glad to have found and read several dozen. Like several I thought IBS acting up. Nope. I went to bed Thurs night feeling yucky and somewhat bloated. Today has been horrible. How I wish I'd found this before testing pill 3. I'm in pain. We're it not for the Bentyl I take for my IBS I can only iminage how truly bad I'd feel. My husband and I were to leave on vacation today. Were. Past tense. Cancelled. I just now climbed into bed with the heating pad on my belly for hopefully some relief. Have a steady fever. Given for sinus infection resistant to Amoxicillin. I'm a Veteran and get care at my VA. This is just one more antibiotic to add to my list of will never take again. I've sent a message to my provider so all this will be in my medical records."

"Can't rate it yet only been on it 5 days but I try to take it on empty stomach and no dairy milk within 3 hours of taking Doxycycline so I get its full absorption into my system. Calcium can make Doxy void in your body. My eye doctor precribed 100mg once a day for 30 days but I notice everyone else saying they take it twice a day but are having side effects but I am NOT so maybe I'm not overloaded with drug. I think it's helped my eyelids some in the 5 days I have taken it. They don't seem to burn as much since I have Meigomian Gland Disfunction and Blepharospasm eyelid problems and no tears, dry eyes. I'm doing this drug, warm compresses 5 times a day, sleeping with eye mask so my eyes don't dry out more while I'm asleep from the AC or fan blowing at my eyes"

"I was prescribed doxycycline to clear up a serious infection in my tonsils. I don't usually like to take pills, but just a couple days into treatment, there was a considerable positive difference in the swelling and spots on them. It did make me very nauseated though."

"3 year ago I was diagnosis with Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF), 30 days of doxy. First year after, I had major bathroom problems, a headache lasted 6 months. I wanted to die. I went to a eye doctor, the bacteria was hiding, in my oil ducts. More doxy, and glasses, I can t produce tears any more, I have dry eye syndrome. 2 year, I started smelling, peroxide odor in my nose. Went to doctor. I had staph infection ,in nose from no tears ,more doxy. More digestive problems. This year ,I was feeling really down, my wife begged me to get blood done, I went and my RMSF numbers double, 30 days of doxy, this time I exercise ,yoga every morning. I eat no yeast, gluten, red meat, and no sugar. And I eat probotics and prebotics. Mineral water. And no vitamins or supplements."

"I was prescribed this for tonsilitis and a nasal carbuncle/furuncle. Prescribed twice a day for 10 days. It got rid of the fever and sore throat after a day. The puss pockets on my tonsils are still there, but smaller, and I am on day 8 out of 10. I could not take this pill on an empty or even semi full stomach, or I would throw up. Even a banana an hour or so before dosing would not be enough to stop the severe nausea. Besides that no real side effects, except loss of appetite. Not pleasant to take because of the size of the pill and nausea, but worked."

"I have had Doxycycline 100mg for 7 days in two occasions, first for a gynecological infection and recently for sinusitis. In both cases, the drug had a very slow unset of action. The symptoms mostly disappeared on day 5 but the short treatment couldn't clear the infection. In the first occasion, I couldn't get it continued and got a bad recurring infection. This time I try a prolonged treatment. I believe the reason is that doxycycline is a bacteriostatic agent and merely prevents bacteria from reproducing. The immune system itself should kill the bacteria. So, if your immune system is somehow weak it can't do the work in time. Anyway, doxycycline had a positive effect, even if it was prescribed empirically."

"I was put on this medicine post abortion, and I regret ever putting this medication in my mouth. I was sick as a dog thru my pregnancy and just couldn't wait for it to be over. After going thru the procedure I thought finally a sigh of relief. Wrong. I didn't feel awful the first day so I skipped the meds since I was already thru enough. The next day I did what the Dr said n took it on a full stomach. All the sudden I started to get cold and I couldn't do anything to get myself warm. I was thinking how am I ever going to make it thru work. All the sudden I got nauseous and I'm like oh no here we go again I thought I wasn't pregnant anymore. I was cold all night with the shakes and a major headache. I refuse to take these meds again."

"This drug left me temporarily disabled. My hands were crippled, I couldn't stand on my own and my bones felt brittle. I would never recommend this drug. I think the hospital was just giving me the strongest drugs they could find to kill whatever I had. Sad thing is, they were just making me so much worse. (I was in my 40s and in good health) I would listen to your body. If your body is reacting to a drug, get off of it and demand something else with fewer side effects. Don't ever ignore bad side effects, it can cost you your life."

"I started day one today/yesterday. I took one pill of 100mg at 1pm and about 30 minutes later I felt like I needed to puke but it went away about 10 minutes later. Then around 5-6 I got a huge headache but lasted maybe 30 minutes. I had to set my alarm for 1am to take it again. I had an immediate feeling of feeling like I was going to puke my brains out and shaking, maybe because I’m freezing under a blanket or because I can’t lay down for 30 minutes. Not the harshest side affects but I should be doing a review around day 7 but it’s 1am, I’m bored and I’ll forget all the symptoms by day 7 so here’s how it’s working out for me so far."

"I'm not sure how much of a rating to give for this drug. I am taking Doxy for a sinus infection and clearing of my chest, 2 a day for 7 days. I took my first two at a time last night and taken my first single dose this am. I still have a headache, pain in my neck from the chest congestion. I don't have stomach issues so far but I still feel crappy. I sleep with this medication, I had a great sleep last night and today slept all day, I'm still tired. I didn't read the information properly I did not take a full glass of water with the pills - oops. Didn't do anything bad though but now I know."

"If it wasn't for having to stay out of the sun while taking, I'd give it a 10. I was given this for something besides my ears at the time, but I clearly remember that it suddenly and quickly cleared up a long standing issue with my ears being slightly sore for quite a long time. My doctor at the time told me to remember that. I seem to have the ear issue again and am thinking of asking my current pcp for at least a short time treatment with this."

"My doctor sent me doxycycline hyclate for a bacterial infection and after taking it for 5 days I have been having diarrhea on the 6th and 7th day. I hope that goes soon. This antibiotic has helped my stuffy and "sneezy" allergic symptoms although on the 7th day I am still feeling and sounding stuffy. The doctor recommended 10 days of 200 mg each day; 100 mg every 12 hours."

"I have suffered from BV for years and one day my doctor decided to check me for a bacteria. I tested positive for Mycoplasma Hominis and Ureaplasma. Never heard of these but evidently they are an STI but not a true STD. Everyone has these bacteria in the body but only when they cause problems do they treat them. I started taking 100mg twice days for 10 days. Medication has not worked so my doctor is calling me in another round. If this does not work I guess that means the bacteria is resistant and will have to use another medication."

"Had flu, some fever and suspected pneumonia. Was put on Doxycycline 200mg to be reduced to 100mg next day. Wasn't eating due to loss of appetite - doctor said this medication would help. Instead, made me vomit about 30 minutes after taking it and made me feel worse. Eventually went to the ER and was put on Zofran and Prednisolone - a much better combination for what I was experiencing."

Doxy 100 (doxycycline) "I am allergic to penicillin and related drugs so my options mostly relate to tetracycline and its relations. For me that has been doxycyline. I have used it for respiratory & sinus/gum infections. This time I developed severe pain in the sinuses, significant discharge of nasty mucus with coughing, body aches, and bilateral ear pain resulting in dizziness. This occurred 3 days after I returned from a 14 day trip through the Southwestern states. Dr did a full exam. Temps were in 99.9 to 101.7 at first. It took about 4-5 days @ a dose 100x2 per day but it is working. I still have aches and ears still blocked somewhat with some dizziness but hoping that will clear. Tomorrow is day 7. Dr will check in@ day 10. So far so good."
